Edinburgh

Marc Bekoff is a professor emeritus of biology at the University of Colorado-Boulder, a fellow of the Animal Behaviour Society, and a former Guggenheim Fellow. He also works closely with Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme and is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Jane Goodall Institute. He and Jane co-founded the organization Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals: Citizens for Responsible Animal Behavior Studies, in the year 2000.

He is the author of more than 200 papers and numerous books including ‘The Emotional Lives of Animals’, ‘Wild Justice' and 'The Animal Manifesto'. TV appearances include: Why Dog’s Smile and Chimpanzees Cry (Discovery) and The Power of Play (Animal Planet).

In this two day seminar Marc will be exploring the emotional and moral lives of wild and domestic dogs and how this influences and impacts their daily lives and their future behaviour. He will discuss the important and powerful benefits of play and its role in social learning and bonding.
Focus points of the seminar will be featuring an in-depth discussion and analysis of evaluating behaviour in dogs, increasing our expertise as trainers and behaviourists. This will be an incredible opportunity to benefit from the teachings of one of the world’s leading scientists and authority on animal emotions and behaviour.
