Why do I always read these threads after I have just bought something. I bought a stop pull harness from pets at home as it was the only size that would fit him and it cost me £16. At least I got the receipt so it can go back. He can't go out for another week anyway.

The halti type harnesses are OK when you have a strong dog that likes to pull (until it is trained). As the lead goes tight, the pressure on the front causes it to vere off to the side so it makes it so that pulling doesn't work (ie the dog doesn't get further forward)

For a pup, my opinion is that you are much better with a standard harness and train loose lead walking at that stage so that you never need to progress to the halti-type

I wont use anything but harnesses for my dogs ever again, well, except head halter and harness combo with untrained and/or reactive dogs.

I used a harness with Jake when he was a pup, and I use a harness on him most of the time now too.

I would always use a harness now, even with a dog that doesn't pull because I feel they are more secure than collars. Dogs can easily slip collars, but well fitted harnesses are harder to slip. If you attach a halti link from the harness to the collar, then this means that even if they do slip the harness, they are still attached to the collar.
