Considering volunteering to do homechecks...

...for the Mayhew in West London.

What do rescue organisations look for in a homechecker? I have to fill out an application form and I want to make sure I maximise my chances of being accepted.

I haven't got a long history of dog ownership but I've been taking Pepper to training club since I've had her and now we do agility.

If accepted I'll get training and be given a procedure to follow.

Any help or pointers gratefully received!

J

Good luck, we homecheck for a few rescues and its so rewarding. The best advice I was given when I started was if I had to rehome my dog would I rehome it to the people I was home checking. I would think the rescue would want to know what experience you have with dogs, and your views on training (reward based) and dog ownership. Sorry I cant be more specific but I was known to the rescues so didnt have to apply formally.
