Following on from what I said earlier.......I'm wary of every single dog we see come the summer holidays/half term times as this is when the children come out with their dogs (nothing wrong with that but you never know how much control they have especially the bigger the dog).

I dont know if its just where i live but ive never seen a springer with a muzzle on it. Ive never seen any english ones being aggressive or try and hurt someone. They all must go to puppy classes lol

She is very rarely on a lead (road walking only) and as far as she is concerned other dogs are just not worth the bother. They can eat out of her food bowl (even when she is eating), drink out of her water bowl and sleep in her bed, if she wants them out she just gets in on top of them, they soon move

Unfortunately we are nearly 100 miles away and as she is in her twilight years (she's nearly 14) it is much too far to expect her to travel otherwise I would bring her to see you just to show you what a well bred, socialised and trained Akita can be like.
I wish you lived closer too I think my Selkie would love her... They sound very similar...

Oh Lord, me to. I walk at odd times anyway, but I am uber careful where I walk and at what times during the school holidays as all the numpties come out to play. Oh, and on sunny days too when the fair weather walkers come out in droves.

There was a Springer at agility last night with a muzzle on, I've never associated springers with being snappy so was quite shocked.
On the other hand the one's we've met in the park have been very nice and have been the best at playing chase with Maggie (her favourite game!).

They tend to be very high energy and emotionally quite needy dogs which is not always a good combination. My GSPs are sooooooo laid back compared to the Springer who never really settles. He is constantly worrying that he might miss out on something, anything, even having his lead put on first at the end of a walk!!

Thanks for explaining that, it's really interesting to know. Certainly the one's we've met have been very busy but really loving dogs.
Interesting what you say about your GSPs because we're beginning to think maybe Maggie has a bit of one in her because she is so laid back at home and her colourings seem to match (you can get black and white GSP can't you?......was looking at piccies on line and the similarities were quite a few, the speckles and all black/brown faces and big patches of colour on the body....sorry, mumbling on.....)

It's the people more than the dogs. Cosmo was playing with a 4 month old Akita yesterday, one of his best friends is a staffi cross, the Mastiff we see most is scared of him (probably doesn't want to get muddy).

I do tend to check the owners out before the dogs. Having said that when I take Cosmo out I am wary of Golden Retrievers as a couple have had a go at him....I am also wary of small dogs owned by aging ladys (sorry no offence meant to anyone on here) but they seem to be the dogs that think they can do what they want to other dogs and people.

I do get a bit freaked when I see some other breeds...but as I say, I check out the person....if they look okay I don't panic so much!!!!!
Itis definitely the people and not the dog.
