Met such a little star today!

We met a yorkie x jrt bitch at a show today and what a little star she was.

She was tiny and was walking really strangely, both back legs were tucked together and she was sort of hopping on them.

She was a happy little soul but Liz couldn't help but ask what was wrong with her.

Apparently, the lady had gone to a breeder to pick a puppy from the litter when they were 4 weeks and heard the breeders talking about having one pup put to sleep because it was disfigured.

She said straight away she wanted the disfigured pup and took her there and then, otherwise she would be pts.

When she took her to the vet aged 4 weeks, the vet said he'd give her a year to live due to a severely malformed spine. She also has dwarfism, hence being so tiny (she was smaller than a rabbit or a ferret).

She's now 7 1/2 years old
The lady has spent the dog's whole life working her back end to build up the muscle so she can hop and still does now, just forcing her to use her back end for short periods each day.
The dog follows her about hopping along happily and is sometimes carried, but even when she's not moving, the dog does her funny run around in circles so obviously enjoys moving!

She was such a happy little soul and I bet she has brought so much happiness to that lady!

Ahh bless. We had a Pomeranian once whose back leg didn't develop properly in the womb, she must have had it tucked under for the 9 weeks gestation so was mishaped. She was only tiny too and vet didn't expect her to last, she last 6 years, so wasn't bad and was a real character and did really well using her three legs although she had some use of the deformed one also.

It's amazing how dogs can cope.
