Is this the most pessimistic vet ever?

Or have you met a better one?
Bran the beagle/hound collapsed in the park yesterday with a dramatic scream, and was carried off to the vet, who was slightly perplexed by his lack of reactions (I did try telling him about the lack of brain cells but he thought I was kidding) and sent us off to the PDSA hospital for an x-ray (he`s really my disabled son`s dog)
As we carried him (my god that dog needs to lose weight) in the vet looked mournfully at him and said "If it`s his back, there probably won`t be anything we can do...."
I was a bit startled but let it go. I`ve got a 14-year-old with a bad back so I know there are things you can do.
When I went to pick him up the vet looked sadly at me while telling me there was no obvious problem on the x-rays but that" he can`t walk. And he if can`t go out to toilet, perhaps there`s not much future for him" OK I said - but lets give him a chance. Come on Bran...and the little g*t hauled himself up and beetled out to the car.
But what got me was- if I hadn`t been a fairly experienced owner - would I have listened to the prognosis?

It is a bit of a scarey thought, but I have to admit your story made me laugh
Hope he has no further episodes and is back to good health now

I agree with the other, it is a bit scary..

I would like to have seen the look on the vets face when Bran got up and scuttled out LOL

Hope Bran is okay now.

I'd have been apalled at that vet!!

So glad Bran seemed to perk up, hope he's soon feeling better

Oh also - I have a friend with a beagle, her dad has an elkhound that jumped on the beagle's back and broke it during play.

They went through hell and back with that dog, they put their all into him with physio etc and now you'd never know there was ever anything wrong with him - they did think he was going to be incontinent but he's absolutely fine! They just have to watch for warm/cool spots - can't remember which.

Absolutely! He`s fine and has wedged himself into the most comfortable armchair while awaiting his Oscar.
