Redd just wants to play

Hi everyone
Redd is 6 months old, he is just over 3 stone and about 16 inches high, he looks a little scary but he is as soft as anything....
when we go out for walks he loves seeing other dogs, his tail wags and he just wants to play, BUT on our walks puppies of a similar age are not very often as big as him and their owners NEVER let their dogs play with him, i dont know if this is because of his size or when he pants he looks more staffy than rotti, i dont know, but adult dogs, they are different the owners will let him sniff then the dogs start growling at him, so i end up taking him away
i feel he is becoming abit of an outcast lol, he is missing out on doggy interaction, I'd love to take him to the park and see him play with other dogs and i know he'd love it but it never happens. Why is it that adult dogs dont like him?

Some dogs just don't take to other breeds at all, I know my Inca is not keen on staffies.
Have you done puppy classes? They are great for pups socialisation.

Poor lad, all he wants is fun, i would do as Becks suggested and try to find a puppy class. I saw Redds photo on your other thread, (welcome to dogsey by the way ), he's georgeous and you can tell he is just a young pup, I would have no problems playing with him..

hi thanks for your quick reply yes we did puppy classes, he was kind of the star of the class lol, he played with one pup there in particular and although he can play rough, he was very gentle with him, he was only small then tho, he's alot bigger now. You mentioned about dogs not liking certain breeds, i had wondered if thats what it was, is it like a dog instinct not to trust a staffy? Redd played with a staffy cross when he was younger too, and they played very very rough, i dont like it. Infact now you mention it staffies are the only dogs that don't really growl at him. Is it an owner thing too??

thanks again

I'm no expert, there's many a person on here better qualified to speak than me, but perhaps you are worrying about him so much that both he and the other dogs can sense your tenseness and are reacting to that.

oooohhhh thank you, he is like a big bear and your exactly right he just wants fun, Ive never seen a nasty side to him yet, my biggest fear is he will become wary of dogs and then be aggressive towards them

i'll get him into the next class up
thank you

you could give it a go, you can always ask the other owner how their dog is aswell before hand just to be on the safe side and if they say their dog is ok, let the fun begin

thanks alot, from reading this and thinking about it a little more, i guess the problem is my confidence, i dont believe he would harm another dog intentionally, but always at the back of my mind is what if there is a situation i cant handle. I need to be more confident lol and stop worrying, all my worrying is more likely to cause a "situation"
anyway thanks again you have both been a big help

You'd be surrised how your vibes can travel down a lead.
I used to be like that with Inca, I'd see a dog and tense up (she likes to play and can be too rough and act like a fool!).
I have learnt to relax and she is sooo much better.
