yes I did worry that it could be cos its new and different he is bvehaving better - but only one way to find out !!

I thought Indie was quite good with other dogs - what is the aggression like?? As Bruno is aggressive but I firmly beleive its fear / defensive aggression and hopefully this class will also help with socialising him - which Is why I wanted a class rather than one 2 one with behaviorist which I have already treid.

Has she only recently started showing aggression ??

no shes shown it since she was about 5 months old, after a few attacks from other dogs. I also think her aggression is nervous aggression. She will attack any dog when she is onlead. Offlead she is fine, but onlead and she goes into a frenzy, more so if the other person pulls their dog to the side when we are approaching, then shes more likely to attack, which i think is cos she thinks she has somethin to worry about.

Ive tried so many things im close to gettin a behaviourist out as she lashed out at scruffy the other day when she was in a frenzy at another dog

good luck at the class - and I'm glad the half check collar made a difference - I've never tried them before - only the full check collar and that was over 13 years ago

let us know how the class goes

As you said yourself nothing else has worked and if this is going to be sorted out, it has to be now.

I would go (as you also have decided) to this class, keep an open mind and have a talk to the trainer about your concerns.

Being the "boss" isn't about chocking your dog, yell or even worse, but about being in charge as to decide who does what and when.
And the relationship we imo should have to our dogs is about being the boss and once we have established that, teamwork.
If the boundaries are hard for the dog to see, you cant expect it to work for or even with you, as it will take charge or even encourage you to settle things once and for all.

I hope your trainer turns out to be just what you both need and youŽll get success with your dog. To struggle and have conflicts isn't what I consider a happy life for either of you.
Will you get back to us when you have had your class?

Hi i use the half check collar on my 2, i use them as normal everyday collars , never had a problem with them, 1 of mine can pull for England if she can get away with it.

Or have you tried the ""Dogmatic Headcollar" as this takes the pressure off the neck, i have found them to be very good.

Dani - if you are worried about him coming out of the collar...walk him with his harness and the collar, with either 2 leads, or a double ended lead.

Normally, I walk Teagan with 2 collars, and a double ended lead, attatched to both collars, as I feel I have more control over her (harness's don't work for me, and halti's are ok, but the short nose doesn't help!)

I don't think that training classes alone will change the dynamics of the relationship you have with Bruno - you will probably find you will need to alter your whole approach towards him - otherwise you may struggle to apply the techniques you learn at training classes.

Have you tried NILIF or a similar approach? We had to bring a very spoilt rescue dog back into line (our own fault; she was our baby before we had kids ) I personally like NILIF as it is easy for a toddler or young child to apply; which ensures that the dog then views all members of the household - big and small - with the same respect

Good luck with training classes........

no I dont think training classes alone will sort it - I definetly needf to be fimrer with him - as its the same story - he is my baby - he is treated more human than dog ( my own fault)

will look into NILIF and let you all know how we progress

Hevvur - will try that approach re the leads and harness

thanks
for all ur help

Just my two-penneth Dani, I agree with others in that it should be a more holistic approach, which I know you know

NILIF is excellent - as I've said before, I've brought all my dogs up that way without even knowing the method had a name! Feel free to PM me if you like
