Oh now, I could be happy there!

I think maybe money does buy happiness. I could be an old miser in that house with no pal (except you lot of course) and i'd be quite fine! (With my dogs, and lots more given that land!)

The most expensive within 3 miles
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetai...a_n=1&tr_t=buy £4,250,000

The average house price would probably get a 2 bed flat or small 2 bed house

The website wouldn't work for me, but from knowledge of the area, £206,000 would buy you just about any house in Orkney, including most of the hotels. In fact, I can think of only 2 that would exceed this amount! Prices are going up hereabouts, though, so it's now or never, folkx!

Snorri Mansions cost us £27,333 in 1992; now, we'd be expecting £50-55K (as well as the general rise, we have done some work on it.)

I see some of these property programmes these days - I can't understand why we Brits pay so much for our houses. In the US and in France, you'd be laughed out of the property centre for suggesting UK levels!

Snorri

At the moment, we have a three bed bungalow, in the kent countryside going up for £500K +

With prices they way they are at the moment, we'll be lucky if we get that

I live in Falkirk, exactly half way between Glasgow and Edinburgh with trains running either way to the cities from two stations every 15 mins.

The business folks from the cities are all moving here cos the house prices were cheaper, alas, because of this the house prices here have rocketed in the past three years, i saw a 3 appartment ex-council flat up for sale last year, the asking price was £110,000, the house was 4 in a block type and six years ago the asking price would've been £40,000.
