So, you see, this is not just my supposedly arrogant opinion. Every book I have read on dog training adheres to this same advice.
Not only are there dominance issues involved, but hygienic issues as well.
Every dog I've ever known (owned by other people) that is allowed on furniture has behavioral problems, does not regard their owner as alpha, does not mind or show what I consider proper manners.Maybe I am on the wrong site.

I am not sure which dog training books you have been reading, but although it used to be thought there might be various issues with dogs sharing human beds, there really aren't. The only problem is if you have a dog who guards or who isn't responsive to the "Off" command, obviously.
This is fact, borne out by the evidence that so many people who have very well trained, nicely mannered dogs, also have dogs who share their sofas or beds from time to time.
That apart, I'd look to some good authors such as Jean Donaldson, Pat McConnell, Kim Moeller, etc etc for help.
