A Judges Critique

A Judges Critique
(Reading Between the Lines)

The dog was well up to size (it was enormous)

The dog was well bodied (it was too damn fat)

A well balanced dog (it had a leg on each corner)

On the small side (it was the runt of the litter)

It needs to mature (it was a scrawny pup)

It moved with drive (the handler couldn't stop it)

The dog could move better (it was a cripple)

Not showing at his best (so bloody minded he was uncontrollable)

It filled my eye (the only reasonable one in a class of rubbish)

Could change places any time (they where both rotten)

A very even class (they where all rotten)

The dog lacked expression (it was plain ugly)

The dog was lacking in coat (it was bald)

The dog was in good coat (you couldn't see the dog for feathering)

The dog had a gay tail (it carried it bolt upright instead of level)

It was a spirited dog (it bit the judge)
One I have placed before (the handler is a very good friend of mine)

How true, how very very true......

I can add a few more:

One I have admired from the ringside (so I don't need to go over it)
Still some filling out to do (looks like a furry toast rack)
Maturing nicely (into what, I am not sure!)
In hard condition (not up to weight)
An interesting class (complete rubbish all the way)
I was pleased with my entry (the numbers, not the quality)
I was pleased with my main winners (thank goodness I found one or two half decent)
Would benefit from ringcraft classes (handler didn't have a clue and the dog paced)
Very promising youngster (hard to tell anything since it was leaping all round the ring)
Late developer (now it's in veteran I suppose I can be charitable)
Moved a little close behind (it crossed its legs as it ran until it fell over)
A little shy (curled into a tight terrified ball in front of me)
Friendly temperament (grabbed my leg and went for it)

How'd be a judge, eh????

Thanks for the good laugh, I hope I never wrote any of those, but I expect I may have done - It can be very hard to find something to say at times, Kath
