How much do your dogs cost you

Just curious. I'd be interested to see what people spend on their dogs pw/pm/pa depending on how you work it out. Would be interesting to know the split/breeds/numbers of dogs what they are fed and if you do any activities i.e. showing/regular classes etc

Just bored and curious!

I wouldn't dare work it out - but then, it wouldn't matter as they are worth every penny!

Food = £10 a month
"Tummy tablets" £6 a month
They are the only regular things but as others say, whatever, it really doesn't matter, we wouldn't change her

I was just thinking about this the other day as I don't spend that much on food for them...but then I realised how much I've spent on Hoki at the vets in the past 6 years she's had:

2 x cruciate knee ops
3 x lump removals
1 x eye lid op
1 x emergency ear patching up (fight with Stumpy)

But she's worth every penny.

Corr blimey. There was a thread about this a while back but I can't remember numbers specifically.

My guesstimates are:

Food: £50 per month. £600 p/a.
Treats/bones/rawhide etc: £100 p/a.
Insurance for all three: £800 p/a.
Flea treatments: £160 p/a.
Random vet treatments: £300 p/a.
Accessories: £100 p/a.

I think that is about it for basics.

So £2060 a year for three dogs. Or £686 per dog. I suppose on a good year (no unexpected vet bills etc.) you could shave that down to £500 per dog per year. Great value if you ask me!

I have absolutely no idea and I do not intend to start calculating.

Over and above the usual ie initial purchase nutrition, health, insurance etc I do buy a lot of equipment (the person who dies with the most wins); go to lots of seminars, workshops and training; and when I compete lots of competitions.

My fuel is "free" as I have a company car, but that is the only bonus.

They are priceless.

oh gosh, i started writing down everything i bought them but then stopped. wish i had carried on now!

for 2 chinese cresteds each month i spend:
£25 on food
£5 on treats
£7 on supplements like their salmon oil etc

i NEED to get them insured!

thats the basics but then i do sometimes randomly buy them something to chew on or a new toy. then there's show entries at £30 ish a show for one dog, but it depends when i enter them.

i dont mind, i love them and theyre worth every penny

This was a worry of mine when my other half decided we were having a pup.

So far I am very impressed, in the last 9 months she has cost us very little at all. She is a rescued staffy puppy she was only 6 weeks when we had her so the cost of puppy milk was a bit smart but worth it. And we were really lucky to get her two puppy jabs, flea and worming treatment, her chipped and two consultations for £45 at pets at home. (It's an offer they do).

Then we had her spade, we thought it would be about £200 but we got a good discount at pets at home and it came to just £145.

And since the p/m
£10 on food
£10 on treats
£12 insurance.

But the money we have saved, instead of going out shopping and meals because we would rather be at home with the pup and walking her is amazing. Plus I've lost two stone since walking her everyday and she is so lovely she really makes the joys a home. That is priceless.
