The other thing i dont like is when your walking and some elses dog comes over to great yours and then they dont say anything and just walk off if they dont like there dog playing with other dogs all they have to do is say!
Aw sally your poor doggies! i dont get why people cant keep them in the garden if they do that

mine play with any dog that wants to play what ever breed or sex.
they are known on the fields where we take them as friendly etc and even thou they are the biggest that go on there most are happy for them to mix.this is because the dogs have said hello and started to show they want to play so we let them all off we have to watch hol if theres balls around as she will go for them.
the main group consist of staffy, lurcher x,terrier x ,greyhound, yorkie, gsd x akita who is as mad as hol others labs, boxers, westies.
hol is best mates with cassie the akita x gsd they are the same age and play for hours but they can get carried away so they suit each other.

But these owners allowed the GR to have a sniff and get excited before yanking her away and snapping, "no" at her. They told me they are trying to discourage play.

They then told me that she doesn't always understand other dogs' signals. I'm not surprised if she isn't allowed to play. Why let her get all excited and then stop her?
I understand their motive, but not their timing

I try not to allow Molo to play with every dog we meet; rather allow him to briefly greet them, and then only play if I give him "permission" - as I believe it will improve his off-lead recall.

I also wonder if he understands doggie language - maybe its because I don't let him mix all the time

We met an off-lead lab this morning - Molo was on-lead at the time. She approached him with what I though was friendly signals; then when they sniffed, she suddenly raised her hackles and nipped him on the bum

Keena always played with other dogs and loves nothing more...

When she was small and quite scared on her new walks people used to make a bee line for us and want their dogs to play with her and I was always happy for her to play but they never seemed to mind when their adult dog was being a bit to rough, I never stopped her playing because I didn't want her to think there was something wrong and it was good for her confidence but I always watched it didn't get too much for her but the point is the other owner didn't mind because their dog was in control as it was bigger and didn't worry about my little one but when she reached about 8 months and had gotten bigger and actually more suitable for a game of rough and tumble nobody wanted their dog to play with her anymore because she was big now!

It upset me quite a bit and irritated me too cuz Keena was quite spooked at first by other dogs and that was when people wanted to flock around her with their bigger dogs but she soon grew out of it and got confident around dogs and began to really enjoy playing until to her it became the best thing on earth, then no one wanted her to play anymore!

One guy who liked to let his dogs play had two Jack Russells! Keena loved playing with one of those, the other didn't like to play and so she would leave it alone but the one who did like to play was brilliant! Keena adapted her play and was gentle with the little JR and they would have a great time, I used to try telling people with much bigger dogs that she is fine and very friendly and told them how her buddy who she plays with can't weight much more than about 7lbs! and she never harms him but still they would act like Keena was scary I got fed up of bothering to ask in the end!

I felt sorry for her so that's why we got Takoda so she would always have a playmate Now there is to of them most people just avoid us, pulling their dogs away, even though the dog looks like it wants to play and it is rare now that we actually get close to another owner to even ask if it is ok for them all to play. I wouldn't mind but they are two of the most friendly dogs you could ever meet and they play nicely so it's a shame we don't meet more owners who would like their dogs to play.

Dibley has quite a few doggie friends they range from a JRT to another Great Dane! I must admit I only let him play if I believe the owner of the other dog to be sensible and with owners we already know. Being so big he tends to get tired and lies down and watches as the others continue to play

Really sorry to hear that Myschievous. Imagine the fun they would have with Loki.

We took Loki to socialisation classes as a pup and I think this is SOOOOO important for a dog that is not only separated from its litter at a relatively young age, but also lives with only humans for company. How else do they learn?

My two have lots of doggie friends we meet and walk with occassionally, I think it's nice for them to have some company, like it's nice for us humans to have company. I will only let them walk or play if the other dogs are friendly though, as Cassie is game for a punch up if a dog is aggressive towards her! Georgie just legs it, he's off! I learnt the hard way with him once! Such a shame when people don't let their dogs socialise with others if they are friendly that is.
