Squeaky Toys; are they a route to a problem?

I read a letter in a magazine recently regarding squeaky toys for puppies.
I've also heard a dog trainer mention the same thing. She constantly says, 'Have you heard the noise a baby makes when screaming'?!
So can a squeaky toy encourage a puppy to bite hard when older. And if the biting results in a scream from a child would the dog pursue it and continue.

I think dogs are a little more intelligent than that but is there any connection?

Totally agree. Don't know about you but the squeaky toys we have for Harley don't sound like a baby. The tone etc is totally different. Dogs have highly sensitive hearing and would be able to differentiate the difference in sounds.

Sounds like a trainer making excuses for badly trained and dangerous dogs.

M pup adores his squeeky as have all my other dogs and I'm 100% positive they could never mistake a squeeky toy for a baby.

I've yet to find a sqeaky toy that sounds, looks, smells, feels and (I assume) tastes like a child. Dogs are smart enough to know the difference in my opinion. None of mine have ever attacked a crying baby and my border collie cross was absolutely excellent with children yet an absolute fiend for sqeaky toys.

I've never heard the sqeaky toy one before but I've heard that high prey drive dogs may mistake a crying baby for prey because of the noises it makes.

I've read before not to give squeeky toys but can't remember in which publication or why. Don't know if it was something to do with the noise (supposedly) making dogs over excitable. Mine has (not too loud) squeeky toys but doesn't bother with them too much, is quite happy if we have a game, then put them away, thank goodness
