can i compete in agility???

Hello there, I am due to start puppy obedience in 2 weeks once flowers innoculations are completed. I really want to train her agility with the same training group as they have competitions throughout the yr and getting into this sport really appeals to me, but I am worried that as she is a crossbreed and i have no papers for her I will be unable to compete???? Please help??

Thank you

Hi once she is old enough - 12-18months then you can start training and you will be able to compete.

Many cross breeds compete - you will need to register on the Kennel Club Working Register - someone - PATCH I think - will have details on how you do this.

But most training clubs for agility won't let her start until she is at least 12 months - this is so as not to damage their delicate bones. Larger dogs it may be best to leave until 18months.

Good luck with your puppy training too.

Oh get on the waiting list for agility though - they are usually very long

Yea you will have no problems registering her with the KC for agility, I think it's the activity register you'll need, you don't need any papers or anything, just a name to register her with, something you can make up yourself, but I'm sure you will both have a great time, both with obediance and Agility!

Hi,

Rach is spot on regarding age before starting Agility training , so `just in case`, please dont let anyone try to persuade you differently

To get on a waiting list you just contact clubs in your area, go along to make sure you are happy with their techniques, [ should be all fun positive reward based ], and that they dont have underage dogs training, [ thats a big red warning flag ], then when you decide which is the club for you, just give them yours and your pups details so they can notify you of their Beginners course of the nearest corresponding time for when pup is old enough
**A good club will welcome you to go along with pup as often as you like to watch classes before you actually start training so she can get used to the sights and sounds and of course have lots of extra socialisation opportunities

Pedigree, Crossbreed, Rescue etc is irrelevent to able to compete in Activities at KC affiliated shows so no worries there
For the KC Activities Register, [ for competing in Agility, Flyball, Obedience and Working Trials ], details and link to the relevent form are here :

Talk to the secretary of the agility section at the training club you want to join - they can tell you about the waiting list - if the have one and what you need to do to get on it.

Have fun with your puppy - puppy classes are great and you get to teach your puppy - lovely watching them learn!
