This maybe a stupid question but aren't Afghan hounds one of the type of breed whose coat has developed to keep them cool? I know an Afghan over here won't have been used to she heat of their original homeland but aren't they better physically designed to cope with the heat?

He landed with snug splash, realised the water was deeper and he couldn't touch the bottom, and then did a very gangly uncoordinated doggy paddle back to me with a slightly panicked look on his face. It didn't stop him from leaping in two minutes later though. He absolutely loves the water and I've never known a lurcher to like it quite so much as him! He sprints up and down the canal with a huge smile on is face!
