a bullmastiff is a large breed dog, it is thought that with these breeds that it is best to wait until after their first season so that they are mature.

We had Dharma spayed at 10 months old (she's a Bullmastiff). She had been booked in to be spayed at 5 months old by her foster home, but the vet called in sick and she came to us, then dippy moomin had a silent season, so we had to wait. Many say with large/giant breeds you should spay after the first season, but be aware that after the 2nd season there is no benefit of prevention of mammary cancer. The risk of a bitch getting mammary cancer if she is spayed before her first season is 0.5%, so practically nothing. If she is spayed after her first season, but before her 2nd, that risk goes up to 8%. After the second season, the risk is one in four, as it is for any time after that, spayed or unspayed. Hope that helps! Best get prepared for the Buster collar too, as they're the size of a satellite dish and bruise your legs

Well ,with a large breed i personally would wait until she has had her first season, then spay her, usually around 12 weeks after it.

i personally think all dogs should have a first season. people tell you their is a risk of cancer. having a womb does not mean you will get cancer, nor does it increase the risk. inbreeding, over vaccinating and bad feeding causes cancer.

they say cancer is hereditary (though not all cancers) and wor is still on going. if this is the case then dogs who have cancer should not be bred from. unfortuantly cancers normally appear from the age 5/6 and dogs are bred will before this so they pass the gene on unknowingly.
