Hello everyone, (this is a long message)
Just thought i would give you an update on Harvey. After taking Harvey back to the vets on wednesday. One of the other vets at the practice looked at him and noticed on the x ray that harvey was not able to take any food down because his esophagus was larger then what it should be and led her to believe it was megaoesophagus. What also concerned her was that he was not blinking and had discomfort when opening his jaw. So she has referred us to the royal veternary college's queen mother hospital in potters barr. We brought Harvey here on wednesday night and see the vets and specialists. They then put Harvey on a drip and kept him in for observation and were going to carry out tests. We went home at 10 o'clock. We got a call at 2:30am to say that he was being transferred over to the neurolgy department. We came back first thing thursday morning and met with the vet that was taking on Harveys case . He had said that Harvey had worsened though the night. He said he had developed phuemonia in his heart because of the megaoesophagus and said that the megaoesophagus was possibly caused by a tumor on his brain which was putting pressure on the nerves of the esophagus and the eyes and his jaw. He said he was 90% sure this was the cause of everything. They asked would we like to carry out a MRI scan or would we want him put to sleep. We decided instantly that we wanted Harvey to have the scan. The vet was concerned that with Harvey in his current state that he would not come though the ansthetic (sorry spelling) needed to carry out the MRI and if there was a large tumor that they would not wake him up because of the stress to Harvey. We still felt that we wanted to do everything possible to make our Harvey better. After a very sad and emotional goodbye to him We decided to wait the 4 hours in the reception waiting area for any news. We got a call by the vet at 6:30 to say that Harvey had NO tumor and that he was in the recovery room
. They were going to give him antibiotics and keep him in the intensive care unit overnight. We left at 8:00pm. We have now returned to the hospital this morning and met with the vet and said that he is still in the intensive care unit and hasn't progressed anymore. They are now going to carry out more tests today and see what happens. We are now waiting in the reception area to hear of any news. fingers crossed!
