a question about dog in labour

Hi

i have a dachshund that is due tomorrow - i know most of the signs as i had a bitch a long time ago that had a litter but my frankie is a different breed and different natured, at the moment she is doing the usual sleeping inbetween sheding in her box but she has started to keep wanting out to go for a wee but isnt actually doing any thing and now she has started to go out and keeps trying to have a poo! i dont remember my other dog doing this - so was just wondering if this was normal? apart from that all else is fine except me getting impatient.....

many thanks in advance.

Michelle

it sounds a bit like her labour has started, she may feel that she needs to pee/poo if its her first litter, when whats really happening is shes trying to pass a pup.

keep a close eye on her, you should see/feel contractions down her sides, if she is in the garden, keep a very close eye she may have her first pup outside trying to do the loo.
if this continues and she is straining and straining and nothing is happening, I would give your vet a call before closing time tonight,

totally agree with Shona, if she looks in distress, or struggling get her to the vet.
