Commercial dog food can cause this, it builds up under the skin as the body cannot dispose of all the fillers in the food, and hence the bad breath and doggy smell.

I have a Border Collie and the only time he had a smell was when he had an overload of yeast in his body. Now that that has gone he is back to smelling like a dog should. I feed a very good complete dry food. Others feed raw food. But a dog can get this yeasty smell regardless of what it is fed. Try using a different shampoo eg: one with coconut and neem oil in it and tea tree.

I agree with TW - the yeasty smell seems to only come from feeding carbs. It is a particular unique smell that only carb fed dogs get - the coat feels greasy and dandruffy. Just my opinion, but the OP might want to consider raw feeding if he/she is not already?
