You can give them paracetamol. My old dog was a skinny medium size not heavy set and the vet said half of one a day.

My Fleet has half a paracetamol every day - as recommended by the vet - so it must be OK

Please phone your vet practise and ask!! I know that one of them is safe and one is not for dogs , but I can't remember which is the safe one.

If you feel your dog needs pain killers then you are better off going to your vet and not trying to treat things at home.

Definitely not aspirin. It caused internal bleeding when I gave it to my dog, who at the time was in excessive pain, (a long story). My vet said I shouldn't have given it to him although thank God that's not what killed my little chap.

thanks for your replies, it was suggested to me to try it for my 15 yr old greyhound x because she has arthritis, she has been going to see the vet and they have tried carprofen injections, metacam and she is now on joint supplements, the vets have told me that she will need blood tests etc before they can give me some more metacam as apparently its not for long term use? but i really didnt want to start going down the road of tests and xrays with the poor old girl if i didnt have to, so i was looking into it and asking a couple of friends who had said that they gave their old dogs joint aid with half a paracetamol crushed into the food every day and it seems to help? i didnt want to look stupid so i didnt ask the vet at that point lol!

I've been researching this over the past few days as my foster boy is a bit stiff at times.

Why not try Fenugreek and Glucosamine & Chrondritin tablets?
