I don't worry about my adult dogs changing foods as long as it is one decent quality to another---except for the springer. She has a few food issues and since she nearly died once when I changed her food I have been paranoid about it.

I am careful with pups as well so I'd gradually add bits and if the reaction is OK do it quickly, if not take it slowly. I wouldn't use too much egg for a pup.

I know I think I am more paranoid about this one with it being a springer and my daughter has a springer with digestive issues at the moment.
