Mine never did when left alone but Wassily was quite uncoordinated and once fell down the stairs out of excitement when wearing his harness before a walk. He caught it on the bannister, it wasn't so bad and I'm sure he would've freed himself eventually but I'm just being careful.

We've just swopped to harness', mainly due to the strain a collar can put on the neck.

If we are in a safe place we can just unclip and they are happy in the harness, they are happy to have a little sleep in it as well.

We're really happy with the harness quality (Ruffwear Webmaster)

Malcolm and Bandit are naked in the home because they play a lot and Bandit once got his jaw caught in Malcolm's collar, the screaming was horrible I managed to free him but now they don't wear anything except on walks. Both are microchipped and well known in the area if they were to get out of my garden.

I feel they run a higher risk of getting into trouble when playing with collars on than escaping from my secure garden.

You could say I'm going with the lesser of two evils in my opinion.

I've lived with dogs for 40 something years and no dog has ever got caught on their collar. I've heard of dogs getting their back leg stuck in a collar when scratching but I think the collar was probably to loose and that's what causes it.

I like the look of no collar but I want an ID tag on them at all times. They are both chipped but the general public don't walk round with scanners.

I've used the harness a few times now and it feels so much more civilised. I'm going to get one for my westie now.
As a bonus I find it easier to put the lead on and off with cold hands because the ring is always in the right place.

I can't believe I've changed to harness after all the years I've used collars. We should always be open to learning and not assume we know it all already

Very useful when having to clip Pereg on to let her out when she needs to go out during the night - I do not even have to switch the light on as the clip from her tether is always hanging on a hook on the door jamb within reach of my hand so I just have to take it off the hook and she stands there with the ring on her harness exactly where it should be. No light needed and no fumbling around to find the ring.

I use a puppia harness same reasons as most people have given mine fits over the head I don't like the ones that just fit over the front legs & chest as they tend to rub underarms/front legs, it's made from a mesh material so yes in theory you can leave it on it's also washable buy from Amazon

Harnesses here too. As others have stated much kinder to the dog. Gives so much more freedom, head & neck free to look & investigate. When puppies we use a training harness & within no time progress to the ordinary harness. Our eldest dog has a soft throat & any sort of pressure would have her gagging /laboured breathing. Always preferred harnesses tho...

My cavvy once got her back paw caught up in her collar while we were out. We'd just got out the car when she started falling about (I thought she'd had a stroke!) then noticed one paw all caught in her long curly ear and collar all together.

As I brushed her every day (have brushed all my dogs daily apart from this velvet coated min pin who gets 'wiped down') and the collar would have been in the way of doing that properly it would have to come off daily anyway.

I've always used harnesses on the little guys to avoid putting any strain on their necks, and now it's just a habit that I feel comfortable with. Plus lifting a big/heavy dog in the car is a LOT easier with a harness .

I know a lot of people say it encourages pulling, but I have never found this.

I use a harness because Rosie doesn't pull so much and I feel I control her better when road walking, I never leave it on in house although she wears her collar all the time.
It's a ancol harness, I bought that one cos its padded xx
