Harness Users

What are the benefits of using a harness on your dog?

Why do you use one?

I use two different styles of haness on my dogs. One with lots of padding at the front for protection training and the second one is very light weight for tracking.

1) He prefers walking on it
2) Better when used for long periods with extending lead
3) Attaches to the Bike
4) Doubles as car harness
5) Easy to get hold of when your dog has decided to fall in the canal.

Having had a dog with a very soft throat, we decided never to use collars again, he taught us how fragile a throat is and how much damage the accidental pull can do to a dog.

Once we changed to harnesses no more pulling either which was a surprise.

They do far less damage than collars around the neck because the weight is distributed across a wider area when the lead goes tight

Why do you use one?
because of the above.

I think they are a much kinder piece of kit

I use a simple harness for Betty, as she has a thick mane of hair and a tiny little head and face........it didn't take her long to realise it was easy to slip out of her collar. So I use the harness for safety.

When I used one it was so there was no chance of pulling on my little sweet Cavvy's neck. If you did - even very gently - she used to go into this over dramatic choking to death paroxysm that had everyone looking at her and me! Bella is good on the lead now and only very occasionally pulls away. I do wish I could find the right one for her tho. Trouble is she is quite big barrel chested but tapers away to the neck, head and back end too. If they fit in one place they are too small or big in others.

i use a harness on my lhasa x dachshund, due to her long back and previous back injury. I also use an extendible lead over the fields, i would NEVER use the lead with a collar.. and she does wear it off lead too.

Tangutica.. Mia's harness was custom made to ensure a great fit by: http://www.fleecedogharnesses.co.uk/...rness-reviews/

A pic of Mia wearing her harness is the 3rd or 4th pic down.

I find walking much better with a harness as it doesn't pull on Archies neck and he doesn't try to pull as much. Yesterday I sent of for a Perfect Fit Harness as it doesn't have to be pulled over a dogs head.... Archie hates that. It was expensive but as a friend pointed out it should last the dogs lifetime, and as it comes in 3 pieces you can buy seperately if one breaks you don't have to replace whole thing. Just google Perfect Fit harness and have a look. Not sure about leaving on all day though.
