Try Expedia.com or Tripadvisor.com. They both have user forums so you can find out what other people think before you book. Where do you need to be as I stay there quite a lot and probably can suggest some places.

Only an idea at the mo, OH has an appointment at St Thomas's Hospital, so ideally around that area, walking is no problem.

Ring the appointments line at St Thomas's and they will have a list of local hotels, b&b's etc. A lot of London hospitals have rooms on site that you can book (we use one at Gt Ormond Street when I take my son there)

Failing that try the Holiday Inn at Kings Cross - only a stop or two on the tube (or not that far by taxi), book in advance and locally and you can get a room only for about £20, but I'd advise you to find somewhere else to eat as they do have ways of making up for the cheap room.
