Fined councillor: My dog roams streets because she has Alzheimer's

A new councillor has fallen foul of her town hall’s zero-tolerance policy on dog roaming – and claims it’s because her pet Yorkshire terrier has Alzheimer’s disease.

Julie Reid was elected as a Labour councillor to Manchester’s Gorton South ward last month.

But it has emerged that in the run up to the May 6 vote, the teacher and mum-of-three was hit with a £50 fine after a town hall enforcement officer spotted 12-year-old Holly roaming off the lead near her Abbey Hey home.
