Sorry, to sort of butt in.
Firstly, I do not agree with the buying of a pet as a fashion item, dogs are not the only victims to the designer pet craze (micro pigs, african pygmy hedgehogs, sugar gliders, etc).
Cockerpoos, labradoodles have all been given "fancy names", but weren't all pedigrees were originally cross breeds at some point? Leonbergers were originally an early St Bernard x Newfoundland x pyrenean mountain dog (could you imagine if they'd tried to abbreviate that name
) The kennel club have just invented a breed standard for the"qualifying" breeds, but the breeds have still changed over time, i.e: the bulldog's facial features have changed dramatically over the years.
I believe that as long as both the owners and breeders are responsible and do not add to the fashionable craze then imo it doesn't really matter what people call them. Dogs (well all animals) should be regarded as a companion and not an accessory!
