Are any lungworm meds prescription free?

I have noticed that in other countries you do not need a vet prescriptions for lung worm medication ..
And read of one Australian online store that ship to the uk with out prescriptions needed ...

Have had horror stories about companies that send POM to the UK without a prescription - from generic or out of date medication, to complete fakes. Some companies aren't even legit at all and will be impossible to get hold of as their 0800 numbers won't ring through to anywhere and their emails will be ignored. Don't think it's worth taking the risk with my pets' lives for the sake of saving a few quid IMO.

Panacur is used for lung worm treatment and you don't need a prescription.

The directions are on the packet

I thought it was a 7-10 day course - when I priced it up it was more expensive to use than Advocate because of the length of treatment That was a little while ago though

For the control of lungworm Oslerus (Filaroides) osleri in dogs administer 50mg fenbendazole per 1kg (2.2lbs) bodyweight, daily for 7 consecutive days.

A repeat course of treatment may be required in some cases.

It's worth asking your vet whether you have lungworm in your area. I asked mine and he said in 35 years he has never seen one case of it.

but its here and here to stay....just because one vet thinks he hasnt seen it doesnt mean its not rife...it is,and symptoms are not always that obvious..such as 'bleeding out' in routine surgery etc.... i wont risk my dogs health...the other worms are nothing in comparison
