Advice about 'dumped' motorbike please....

About a year ago my OH's work mate asked if he could put his motorbike in our gargage whilst he moved, as where he was moving to temporarily didn't have a garage. He had split up with his mrs.

And it's been here ever since!

Problem is now it is getting beyond a joke. He had it on trickle charge for ages to stop the alarm going off, but then took that off as needed it for his bike. We have a huge garage but it's still taking up room.

Shortly after it arriving it needed an MOT and he kept giving reasons why he couldn't get it done..... my OH has a sneaky suspicscion that the bike is actually registered in his ex-mrs name, which would be why he has not got the papers etc.

His mate now no longer works with my OH and although he has his number doesn't reply to any texts he sends about the bike.
OH had a missed call from him a while back so rang back but couldn't get hold of him.
He now lives in Milton Keynes, not exactly local to us in Suffolk!

What can we do?
One of his mates has suggested breaking it up for scrap lol
Another has said you can apply for the paperwork??
But obviously we don't want to do anything illegal just want our garage back.
How would we find out who it is registered to?
It's a nice bike too, but it's just sitting there taking up space.

DVLA will tell you the registered owner and the insurance status.

What just like that? That's a bit worrying that they will give that out? Are you sure?

You are right. We fit the 'reasonable cause' to ask for info and there is a form to print off.

OH's a bit worried about spending the £2.50 to do it though lol

Plus if neither of the friend or his ex-mrs have updated the DVLA we could still be having problems getting rid of it.....

Kawasaki ZX750 Ninja, MotoGP model going cheap!
Will swap for a pony!

As well as filling in the forms how about typing up an invoice for 'storage' charges and send to the address you get from DVLA, no hope in hell he'll pay you but might be a good wake up call for him

If he doesn't respond(give him seven days in the letter)then say that you are going to dispose of the bike as a particular lien for the monies outstanding
