Kennel Cough, Benylin & Bisolvon?

Can I use both of these together?
I've read the Bisolvon is to loosen the phlegm, but Benylin suppresses the coughing, will this be counter productive?...Reggie has had both today and seems much more comfortable. Is it okay to continue?
Have started them both on garlic & Vitamin C so hopefully it will help strengthen Maggies system just in case.

Hi Lindsay I would not give 'human' medication to a dog unless advised to do so by a vet.
Also 'cough mixtures' have been found to be infective for humans .

Coughing is a natural reflex which helps to clear the lungs of a build up of mucus.
If a dog has kennel cough the most helpful thing is to keep the throat moist and this can be done by getting the dog to drink. Applying a little honey to warm water will often encourage a dog to drink while helping to sooth a sore dry throat.

A dog suspected of having kennel cough should really be checked by a vet (telephoning first to arrange to visit the vet by a back door to prevent infecting other dogs).

I know that it sounds distressing but I agree with the others regarding human medicines !

It will go away soon enough !

I gave one of mine benylin once on a recommendation for kennel cough. Would never do it again, because of it's suppressive tendencies it pushed it deeper into her chest and kc developed into para-influenza ( diagnosed by a vet ). I felt so guilty because the kc was only a mild dose and I made it so much worse.

An update...
Had a terrible Wednesday night with Reggie, poor thing didn't know where to put himself, by Thurs afternoon he wasn't drinking so the rescue advised I return him to them for treatment.
I'm about to ring and see how he is.
Maggie now has KC as well so it looks like another sleepless night for me.
