Star and the Rat Part II

some of you may remember me posting about star picking up a dead rat a few months ago, well today he went one better and ate one whole.

we were out in the fields my 3 a neighbours dog and a man and his 3 boxers, all 7 run into some thick undergrowth and then star run out with all 6 others running after him, i said to the boxers owner that star probably done something to annoy them. He said yeah they probably wanted what he had in his mouth.

I looked at star and saw a rats tail sticking out i told him to drop it (he normally does) but no the scruff with one big gulp swallowed it whole. so off he went to vets where he was given a jab which made him bring it back.

So my question is why did he not drop it today when he dropped the last rat and also drops other things on command, could it be because the other dogs were there.

Deff because of the other dogs I say.

I see it when retrieving. Some dogs gets stressed when too many is around and will act nervous and it show when they return with the object.
Some will even avoid recall.

Annoying but can be trained so that your dog wont do it anymore.

Could be. I have found that Ally doesnt read books, so her stages has been when she felt like it and not when they were supposed to happen

He is fine now, he felt a bit sorry for himself when he got back from vets, but other than that fine.
