I was born in '63, I remember the confusion when it all changed over, but can't realy remember the old money.

I can remember my mums fiance being outraged when petrol went up to 50p a gallon and mars bars going up to 5p a bar, and the bus fare from my infants school to the bottom of our road was 5p.

When I was small (younger than 8 ), mum used to send me down the local shop with a shopping list and the money on my own, when I got in the shop I just had to hand over the list and the money and the owner would go round the shop and get all the bits and put it in a bag, and if there was something they didn't have in, but were expecting it in, they would drop it round later, and the customer was always right I could also go of and play in the woods on my own in complete safety, and our doors were always unlocked and windows left open

Oh I remember it well, my gran always converted it back to 'old' money till the day she died.

My dad once gave my daughter 50p and said, "Here's 10 bob for you!" When we got outside she said, "Mam, what's 10 bob?"

Somewhere lurking I have some threepenny bits and some tanners!!
