Automatic car ?!

I can't drive. I had a few lessons years ago and hated it. Hate cars. Hate driving.
I am starting to see the pros though ( at just over 40 lol).

I cannot rub my tummy and pat my head. I would always have human or furry distractions with me.
I am not stylish or image concious.
I hated the gear thing.

Shall I just learn in an automatic?
Anyone else just got an automatic licence?

I am currently teaching my wife in an automatic. Whatever makes it easier right?

Does she find it easier? Is it easier?

I have a manual licence but did own an automatic for a while.
Loved it but remember you still have the distractions have to beware of other road users pedestrians etc.,

Automatics are lovely in traffic jams you can't stall them and brilliant if you are not very good at hill starts. I have never had a problem with hills to be honest but the reason I changed mine is because we wanted a Chrysler Voyager again but a smaller engine than the 3 litre and they only seem to come in manual. Automatics are more expensive to run and repair.

But hey if it gets you driving and able to get around then go for it .

I learnt to drive in a manual but have only driven an automatic for the last few years. Yes it is easier with less to concentrate on I suppose but not all automatics are nice to drive from my experience. The van I have at the moment is horrible to drive, hesitates when you pull away. It's not just my driving either, my OH & son hate it too & won't use it unless they're desperate. Great for transporting the dogs though.
My niece took her test in an auto after failing several times in a manual but then took it again in a manual once she got a bit more confident.
You can't be any worse than me, I'm a rubbish driver lol

Thanks Lynn
Bint that's an idea.. Do auto then think about manual....

I think I can cope with distractions outside without worrying about a clutch and gears!

I've driven Automatics since I bought my first Subaru-the Justy ECVT-I love them they allow you to drive without having to be concerned about what gear etc you are in. Never had any excessively high bills just because the cars were automatics-you cannot damage the clutch/gearbox/engine by driving in the wrong gear, crashing the gear box etc etc(although the Justy didn't have a gear box being a belt driven)

I currently have a VW Caddy Maxi DSG-which is brilliant it is very nippy & so easy to drive

Sadly I'm going to let my Subaru Impreza auto go as I can't see me having to use it. It will be a big wrench-but he really needs to be being used

I have driven a few automatics over the years (for business purposes, not owned by me) and they are a lot easier to drive, but as a serious car fanatic and speed freak automatics take all the fun out of it for me!
