Cats litter trays

Lately Kira has started to raid the cats litter trays when ever she can :smt078
She knows she is doing wrong as she acts guilty afterwards with cat litter stuck to her nose
I try to keep her away from them but with kids leaving doors open and when I'm busy doing somthing she still mannages to sneak to them yuk
Is there anything I could do to make the cats poos less apealing that wont put the cats off their toilets ?
any advice please as this is a habit most people dont want their dogs to have and I dont want a cat poo kiss from Kira :smt078

I've moved Oliver's litterbox out of Luna's way.

Recently I had to take it in from the balcony as he thought it was too cold and peed in Luna's bed instead.

Luna doesnt touch it now. And can't get near it when home alone. I dont know why she doesnt take it, cos she will eat them outside if she stumbles on one....

But maybe its the catlitter I use? Clayish thing, very little smell....

when we had our cat we had to keep the litter tray behind a baby gate so Star could not get to it.

Yeah... When I lived in the other appartment, I had the litterbox standing on top of the washingmachine in the bathroom, and a babygate in front of the door to the bathroom

Unfortunately the worms that cats have are far more dangerous to children and us so trays should be kept out of everybody’s way and gloves should be used when cleaning and emptying them particularly if you are pregnant. Cats of course should be wormed but as they go out and please themselves what they do, we have little control over their parasites and every care should be taken with their excretions. I'm not a fussy person but when I see a tray in a kitchen and children in the house I find it hard to even accept a cup of tea. Know that the papers bang on about the danger of dog faeces but the last time I asked over 80% of cysts, including those in the eyes of newly born babies, were from cat worms, not dogs; mind you they are very rare anyway so don’t panic just take care.

Still take care Jeanette, the larva of the worm can spend months or even years in the muscle tissue of it's host only to hatch out and cause a new infection when least expected. So keep up the regular worming even if the cat does not go out.

I never knew that.

I never wormed my cat when he was alive unless he had worms which was only as a kitten.

(he was a housecat)

Well I cant deworm him unless he has worms....

We have rules about that here in DK.

But he's never been outside since I got him at 12 weeks, and he'll be 9 years in march...

But I use a showel when I empty the box.
