I keep forgetting things! There are so many to remember!

There are also examples of 'miniature dalmatians' though definitely not accepted! These are generally dalmatian crosses crossed with Italian Greyhounds. They're not full dally, but generally have a lot of dally traits and are often sold as 'miniature dalmatians'.

I did once meet someone who had a pedigree dal who was 2 years old but the same size as my Takara when she was 14 weeks old!

You can also have orange spotted dals and the 'white' dalmatians I mentioned before are actually lemon dals with a lack of pigmentation.

Lemon spotted dals will have black noses, as will orange and blue (I think).

hehe - believe it or not, there was a time when all responsible breeders in the US euthanised puppies that were born patched.
They thought that the gene for patches brought with it big health problems, but after this theory was disproved they are now homed in pet homes.

So what made these breeds become short haired only? Was there a reason or did it just turn out that way?
As far as I know, the breeds haven't become short haired - they have always been short haired....but when one has long hair, it's a fault in their genes.

For instance, the dally's short coat is an asset to it due to it's job, I suspect it's the same with other breeds.

Thanks lottie
