Does your dog do this?

My dog does something that is rather cute, and I'm wondering if this is a
"dog" thing or if it's just her.

Anytime she eats a treat that I give her in the kitchen, she takes it into
the living room so that she can eat it on the rug. Doesn't matter what
it is; biscuit, fruit, veggie, whatever. She takes it from me and eats it
on the rug and then comes running for more, and runs away and eats it on
the rug, etc. etc. etc.

She's my first dog, so I don't know if all dogs do this. Just curious...

Mine used to too. no idea why though! What they both do now is when they have their complete dinner they pick bits out and spit them all over the floor, almost as if they tried it and didn't like the taste so spat it out again!!! LOL Also if there is a blanket or a rug by the bowl my girl will rub her nose on it between mouthfulls!!, baffling!

Dogs are great aren't they!!

I thought it might be an instinctual thing. Like they're substituting a rug
for grass or something.

My son's Springer, which lived with us for years until he got married, whenever or wherever was given a treat would take it to her bed

My Westie Angus likes to take his treat away for munching, but Esau just gobbles it down wherever he is at the time.

It's got something to do with being worried they'll loose the food to another dog/pack member, I think - be careful to watch out for signs of food-guarding. Make a point of taking the treats off her now and again (in exchange for something even nicer, so she learns it's a good thing to let you handle her food).

That makes complete sense, take it away before someone steals it from you!!

Yes my dog does this He is on complete dried James Wellbeloved dog food and he takes every piece one by one from his bowl in the kitchen, into the living room, eats it and then goes back for another - I thought he was mad At least he is getting some exercise going backwards and forwards
