Like I said, I am not going to hijack this thread any further. I have made my feelings about some of the posts on this thread quite clear.

OP, I hope you have found some useful advice on here and come back to read it.

A sensible employer, I would say!

How have you hijacked it, if you are discussing a matter regarding the OP

If we want to get picky, you made a judgmental remark about me, simply because I didn't think members were being judgmental Apparently, that says a lot about me Yes, it says that many of us don't agree with pups being left for long hours to be bored and lonely. I don't think you'll find many that would disagree with that, apart from those who do leave their pups for long hours

I feel bad for the OP, she sure got an earful. but since you already have the pup, and this is the way it has to be, try having a dog sitter come in for a few hours, leave clothes that smell like you with the pup, consider taking the pup (in a crate) to work with you. and I would let the pup in bed with you at night so she isn't left alone all night too, remember she is used to having the comfort of her littermates. I work nights, 9-12 hours, and I have 2 dogs, but because I work nights, I can bring them to work with me, and leave them in my truck. I go out and let them run in the fenced parking lot every 2 hours, play and train. If I worked days, this would not be possible as it gets too hot. Once winter hits, they'll have to stay home, but they will both be over a year, and this will no longer be an issue. I am in Canada, and we don't have the luxury of havin pt. jobs or one stay at home parent for every dog. infact, it is extremely rare. So people have to figure out ways to balance it out. this is how I've done it. Also, when I do leave my dogs alone, they are crated together in a large crate, they are good friends, so this is possible. My dogs are my life, and this is how I've made having them possible!

Yes, all the bickering on this thread has probably already scared off the OP, but hey I'll give my opinion anyway.

Having an 8 week old pup and leaving it for most of the day isn't ideal and if I was trying to find homes for a litter I doubt I would home to someone willing to do this unless I knew them very well, however....

Your pup is here now and you're obviously concerened enough to come here and ask questions!

Personally I wouldn't leave an 8 week old pup on it's own for more than hour or two, but I do know of people that work fulltime and have successfully raised 8 week old pups with a lunchtime visit in between.

So this is what I'd suggest tbh, find a company that would be willing to come in once or twice a day to check on your pup and you should manage. Every other available moment must be spent with the pup when you're not at work to ensure it turns into a well socialised and well behaved adult dog imo however.

HTH x

no dog should be left for more than 3 hours in a crate, how else do they pee ?

If you wanna leave a dog for that long buy a stuffed one. Better still donate to a rescue they will send you pics and regular updates.

Poor OP.

Yes opinions have been given and it does appear that some have 'had a go' at the OP. She may not have asked for solutions but surely common sense should have prevailed and we should have offered sensible solutions to help her. We all treat our dogs differently and what some might find acceptable others may not.

During the day, maybe, as other's have suggested, get a neighbour, family member or a friend to look in on your pup while you are out.

During the night let your pup sleep next to your bed with a blanket and maybe a favourite toy. He may whine and when my pup did this all I had to do was put my hand on his head, say shhhh and he'd go quiet. If he wanted out he would lick my hand.

He is turning out to be a very well adjusted, happy, friendly pup who I love to death.

Poor OP?????? Why??????? Because some have expressed that it's not in order to leave a pup of that age for so many hours I would have thought that was common sense. Several of us have made suggestions, like getting a pet-sitter, taking some leave from work, getting a relative to stay for a few weeks - yes - solutions have been offered, not just criticism.

And anyway, I would say "Poor Puppy" not "Poor OP" - the puppy didn't ask to be put in the situation it is in

Poor OP! Hey, come on - this is a forum for dog-lovers. If you went on a mother and baby forum and said your child wasn`t happy in its cot all day on it`s own, I think you might get a similar response.
There has been a lot of positive advice, but when all`s said and done taking a very young pup from its mum and shutting it up on its own all day is plain wrong.

I think the OP has been beaten up for not living up to unrealistic demands based on speculation.
