Health n Safety gone silly

Im not overly happy about school. I took Harry to school with him as i always do, him either sitting in the buggy with my daughter or me carrying him. I dont go into the playground as theres a risk to my son being snatched so I just drop and pick up from main entrance. I Had Harry under my arm and the head said "you cant bring that onto school grounds its health and safety" Now i know they stopped dogs going onto the playground a few weeks ago (which is through a diff set of gates to where i have to go) as a child is apparently allergic to dogs, then people were tieing there dogs to the school fence but just inside the fence so not on the path, theres only 2-3 dogs ever there they are always together and have come to school for the past 4yrs EVERY DAY. Next school decide that you cant tie your dog up to the fencing either as theres a child that was bite by a dog that was walking past school.

So i walk 6 miles every day (will be 9 miles in September) all through the park to and from school and Im not allowed to take my dog????????? This is just stupid. My son is only in reception now going into yr 1 in Sept so you have to wait in the playground or i would have to wait in the entrance/reception for someone to let him in. I told school i will just leave son to walk into school on his own which i was told i cant do that.

Is this how it is at every school now???? But come on puppy in my arms isnt even able to go in. Well im sorry TUFF its called getting him socialised

Dont you know Harry might morph into a werewolf and go on the rampage??
I can understand the point of dogs left unattended and tied up but a tiny pup being carried - MADNESS!

try your LEA most health and safety has no basis if challenged it is usually what has been made up on the spot by people who have no authority to enforce it, they tried to stop people walking there dogs around a field next to the school where i live but once challenged it was clear that they had no right/authority to do this so it was dropped.

Well he does have a nasty bite on him so you could be right about changing LOL, and yes a 6 week old pup in my arms, if a shop lets him in then whats the prob. Yes fine dogs on there own fine not a great idea, but if you have a dog thats not trusted or can be a bit funny around so many kids then dont take to school, but everyone who had a dog that took it stood at the back of the playground just talking, if your allergic to dogs KEEP AWAY AND DONT TOUCH.

I think i will find the local LEA like you say

The head is a grump at the best of times she can be really nice one min and not the next i feel for the kids lol

God they'd have a fit in my old school where one of the teaching staff's Staffy was regularly found curled up on one of the staffroom chairs, and another parent regularly came in to see me with her puppy in her arms!

Dogs arent allowed to walk into our school, but puppies being carried in arms are allowed, and usually gee'd on by the childrens excitement at being met at school by their puppy, half the teaching staff come out to meet them! There have been about five puppies over the year in my daughters year and everyone has been met with great excitement.

Our little Rolo last September included!

I think that's a real shame. Sad as perhaps it sounds, it's always been a dream of mine that when I have a child at school I'll take my dog with me while picking up and dropping off. I hope whatever school they go to won't be like yours.
I hope you have success with the LEA. Yes he's a puppy now, and can be carried, maybe explain you'll try your best but carrying a full-grown labrador will be hard! It's not fair, it seems dogs are being ostracised more and more from all aspects of our lives.
I wish you well with your campaign - keep us posted!

Sorry, A little confused where you are wanting to take your pup? If its not on the school grounds (ie a public path outside) then they can't tell you not to be there. If its on the school grounds then its their choice. Its either 'no dogs' or 'all dogs'. Perhaps the parents with dogs could take it in turns to hold the dogs outside school while the other parent gets the kids?

They'd be horrified at the school where I work then as there is often a Malamute asleep under a teachers desk
