Whistle and I'll come to you

Did anyone watch this on Xmas eve? I started to but, got to scared. I have read the synopsis but, the ending seems vague and just says something about the horror he had unleashed.
What exactly happened?

I recorded it and watched last night ...

It did end a bit strangley but I think they were trying to portray the fact that the spirit is still there despite alzheimers/dementia taking hold and the chap & his wife were close throughout life ... he was lost when she had to got into a home and she, although couldn't physically say it was missing him so 'haunting' him was her way of reaching him ... after all he did leave her with the parting words ... whistle and I'll come ... so they crossed to spirit together as they couldn't live without each other ....

Sure someone else can interpret it better ... am useless at explaining things!

I want to read the book but, am scared. The TV guide said that the John Hurt version was not much like the book. in the book it's a bone whistle and in the programme it's a ring?
Thanks for the explanation though. Whats all the knights templer stuff then??

It`s a short story. I love the book, but didn`t watch the tv prog because it said they`d changed it a lot.
The original has a whistle the guy finds, that summons...something.

I thought it was going to be really good, especially from the trailers with the door banging etc ... but I felt rather disappointed afterwards...

I thought it was disappointing tbh, pretty much sums up most of the Xmas TV though!

A couple of years ago me and my brother were watching the top 100 scary moments and the old version of whistle and i'll come to you was in it and from the clip we seen we thought it looked really creepy and would speak about it often, so we were excited to see a new version but we were a bit disappointed in it but i did get a bit freaked with the door banging and stuff but when i found out it was his wife pffft not that scary.
