Castration - as routine or if only there was a reason to do so?

Would you have your dog castrated as routine or would you only castrate if there was a reason to do so????

I had my dog castrated routinely as the vet advised this, so that there would be no problems later on in life, and also he was a bit over the top with cushions and teddies and any available leg.

I had my dog castrated at 7 months - think he looks nicer without them anyway

Our vet has never asked us about castrating Finn. I was the one that had to ask about it. Then I was told not to think about it until he was at least 2yrs old to give him time to mature. No pressure which is what I like about our vet.

We dont have any humping, aggression, marking or straying problems so at the moment I dont want him put through an op he does not need.

I would have it done immediately. No reason to keep em on if your not breeding really.

I was asked if I wanted Kali castrated, when he had his first jabs, but I declined (probably male sympathy ) - anyway, both my boys are still "intact" and there have been no problems attributable to their condition. They are both nuts (in the insane sense) anyway!

I couldnt imagine having it done to my boy unless it was a medical emergency to be honest with you. He is still only young (5 months next week) and he doesnt hump anything and we have no trouble with him so probably wouldnt make him go through it
