mishka was on dry chappie, chicken/ rice but now on the cd dry food, i don't like giving canned food as find it makes the teeth dirty quicker, may be wrong but thats also what i have heard.

I think that depends on the dog. Shady's teeth are really white and clean on her Chappie wheras Milo on ND yes his teeth do get dirty quicker.

I have for the past 28-30 yrs fed dried food, but for some reason both Milo and Shady have had problems with dried foods, whichever sort I have tried.
They made Milo anemic and Shady had sickness and urine problems.
I just wonder if there is something in the drying process or something added different these days.
A nice big knuckle bone will do more teeth cleaning than hard dried food.

You would be better to feed tinned purely because of the water content in it. You have to be constantly flushing the bladder out to keep it healthy and that's why dried food is not recommended. There is a food additive that you put on food which does the same job as the urinary prescription diet. You can get it online in places like Vet uk or Medicanimal. Look under urinary diets. It's like a powder you sprinkle over the food. Make sure your dog drinks lots of water to keep flushing that bladder out.

well i know this thread is 2 years old now but our vet has referred mishka to a specialist now as they couldn't find out what was wrong with her & this cystitis, turns out she may NOT have had cystitis now as the specialist vet says after their tests, scans etc she may have some of her ovary left from her spey 5 years ago, not sure as yet for sure as awaiting a result still from the hormone test they did. on 2 weeks of antibiotics for an infection of private parts @ present too.
