Asbo has started resource guarding what should i do?

only really today has this begun but i am keen to nip it in the bud now!

he did it first thing this morning, when nana had left a pigs ear down for her dog when she went to work. i got up and let my two out, and asbo grabbed the ear when he came in. he gave a little growl at mylo, nana's dog, which didnt bother me because they all tend to not like any of them going near them when they have something high value like an ear or bone. its not an issue because they arent left on their own with them.
but i went to reach down and take the ear off him, he growled and went for my hand. i dont know if it was because i came from above him so he didnt really have time to see it was me?
i just shouted no at him and he didnt actually touch me.

then hes just done it again over a bone he found. i went to take it off him because they havent had tea yet and the other two didnt have anything. he saw it was my hand because i went from round the side and showed my hand, and said "give me that" and he started growling and bent over the bone.
i lifted him up from his back (hes got his tshirt on so i just stretched the tshirt up and lifted him) took the bone and went and put it away. he didnt bother once i had taken it, followed me to see where i had put it but wasnt aggressive at all once i had it.

any ideas why hes only just suddenly started? and what can i do to stop it?

Sorry to say it, but don't take things away from resource guarders or they will guard even more. If you need to take something away then replace it with something of higher value to the dog

Lady is a resource guarder so when i play with a ball i have to have 2 exactly the same - she knows she wont lose out by giving me the one i threw back

there's a good book on it called 'Mine'

Playing the two ball game is just avoiding the problem though.........

Mine! A practical guide to Resource Guarding in Dogs by Jean Donaldson is very good, how old is Asbo now? What are the ages and sexual status of all dogs?

Sounds like Asbo is unsettled at the moment afternthe sheep chasing and now this. I would look at whether you are treating him differently with your girl expecting.

no not that i know of.. hes still sleeping with me upstairs, with daph as well (that will have to stop next week though) he gets the same ammount of walks and training, plus he gets a one on one walk with me now because i dont take daphni out twice, so half an hour is just me and him out together.

the only thing i think that has changed is daphni now gets 3 meals a day instead of 2.
