Vets issue salt warning
3.56PM Tue Dec 28 2010

Now the snow maybe thawing but pet owners are still being warned about the dangers of their animals swallowing rock salt from the icy roads. Vets have reported in some extreme cases, having to put dogs down, after the animals licked the salt off their paws.

By: Ellie Price

Apparently the grit they are using on the roads this year is different to previous years and is attacking the immune system of dogs causing at least 15 deaths, this is being researched at Cambridge vet school.

WOW!!! That is serious, i no salt and grit can cause problems for dogs etc but never heard of it causing deaths! My mums dog has been limping occasionally this last while we thought it was just the cold but after reading this i wonder if it could be down to the salt?

Thanks for posting.
