Feeding the birds !!

As many will know at Cafe Ash all are welcome, well nearly all!

Along with all other offerings supplied, I put out soaked sultanas for the blackbirds, starlings etc. but it seems I have aquired other, undesirable patrons - WASPS They are all over my fruity display making merry and keeping the little ones away.

Any ideas how long this will last, or how to discourage them??

ashlady we get plaqued with them too as we have so much fresh fruit in the avairies
we brought some wasp traps from b&q you just put some jam in they get in but can,t get out cost around £4.00
or you can put a old bottle out with tiny holes in it for the wasps to get in,once they get in they cannnot get back out
put some honey or jam inside the bottle

hoep this helps

I always have food available for the birdies, but avoid anything which attracts wasps (sweet/sugary things).

But,as the days become colder-the wasps will start to die-so you should start seeing less and less of them.

Fat balls go down really well and i make my own with cheap lard softened in the microwave for 30 seconds.Just add crushed peanuts/seed,mould them into tennis ball size with a string inside to hang em' up,allow to set-then watch them flock!

Thanks Steve, yes we grow our own fat balls too, I use the fat from the Sunday Roast, goes down a treat. Charlie is in charge of that, she loves getting down and dirty in the kitchen

ashlady we were really plaqued by them last year.have never seem so many wasps to be honest
but this year it wasn,t too bad as we had all the wasp traps out

we have to be so careful cos it can be very dangerous for one of our birds to get stung

hope you sort the problem and can carry on feeding the birds
