Crossposting from Forum to Forum

I have been on forums now for nearly 2 years now, but Ive always been under the impression that if I want to crosspost (lets say from here) to another forum. That I would ask for permission from the poster before doing so. Also in my crossposted thread I would state, out of common courtesy, that it is a crosspost.

The reason why I ask is this. Over recent weeks I have seen event unfold "straight from the horses mouth" so to speak and posts raised. Only to find a day or two later, the same story appears on other forums, slightly edited to make believe that it is that persons experience and there is no mention that its a crosspost.

To me that is out of order. What do you members think???
What, if any, are the rules of crossposting?

If you are directly quoting someone's post from another site it is courteous to ask their permission to crosspost & to acknowledge that permission to crosspost has been given. Many people on various forums will post similar types of posts relating to requests/opinions/ideas, etc., in response to, e.g a news item, without necessarily plagiarising a post from another site.

I always ask if its ok to crosspost something and similairly people have asked me can they crosspost something Ive added. Like you i usually add a piece at the beginning to say *crossposted*

I thought you needed permission anyway- dont most of the terms and conditions of most Boards add this?

Well you have hit upon a major gripe I have. Only the other day I read a post on here by one of our members only to find that an infrequent visitor to this site had copied the post to another site and claimed it had happened to friends of theirs!

At times like that I have to bite my tongue.

Yes I know the exact one you are referring to Roxy.....they changed the posting to state friends and changed the name of the dog, just to make it different. But they also included a link that "THEY" found in relation to the subject.

Yet the link appeared here first.

So so sad!!!
