cooked bones

can anyone tellme why pet shops sell cooked bones when they r dangerous for dogs?

i dont understand it. And i see so many people buying them as well. I once bought indie a cooked pigs leg and it splintered straight away and i had to chuck it.

surely the pet shops must know they r dangerous??

alot of people dont understand the dangers in some things and think they are getting the dog a treat and think its ok if its on sale at a pet shop ,the pet shop should at least put a warning on items that could be dangerous ,I bet they would think again if they were sued for selling a item that harmed a dog

Are the smoked bones likely to splinter? Our pet shop sells smoked knuckle bones, smoked shank bones, filled smoked bones etc.

If we give Toby any bones then they come from the butcher and raw. He get half a cows leg or shoulder blade he loves them.

It keeps people away from the house when they look down the drive and find a half eaten cows leg.

Mark

My pet shop is pretty good, they have a notice next to all the cooked/smoked bones informing the customers that the bones can splinter and never to leave a dog unattended with one.

I have never given my dogs bones based on the fact that they might splinter or get it stuck. Barneys mum died from eating a bone that she dug out of the bin she was only 3yr old.
My partners ex gave his Bull Mastiff a bone and went out leaving the dog with it. When Ste got in he found the dog choking and rushed her to the vets sadly she died. Stes father has 5 xbreeds who all have bones that he gets from the butcher the splinter often and one dog has even been rushed to the vets cos of it but he still gives the bones to them all

Bones are fine....UNCOOKED! It is the cooking which makes them brittle but raw they are no problem.

Why on earth do they cook them at all? I suppose they keep longer if smoked????

How long should you keep a raw marrow bone for?
