Some 378,000 dogs, cats and ferrets have entered the UK on a pet passport, very few fail, mainly on the flea treatment thing.
Whilst it is regrettably that this dog's chip failed you can't just allow any dog into the UK, this is why we are rabies free.
I don't understand why it's costing them so much in kennelling though, it's not costing me anywhere near that amount for Cooper, including the price I paid for him!

They would be able to bring him over and put him in quarantine in England until it was sorted out as you can with any dog that doe's not have a Pet Passport. We have done a few and the 6 months quarantine is around £2-3000, if the chip was verified they could then go for early release, at least they could visit if he was over here
