As for the reels [and reels and reels] of thread, many years ago when the children were young, twin was visiting from the States and she brought me a gift of about two dozen of them [if not more] as they were in a sale - I think 8 for $1 or something. In those days I used to sew a lot but the only reel that ran out was the royal blue one although I have no idea why.
