Obsessive humper!!

thankfully not jake

its a dog we met on a walk today.

i took jake for a wee on lead walk, and then went into the park to give him a wee run. we were in there about 5 minutes when all of a sudden a SBT came flying into the park off lead. i looked and couldnt see the owner anywhere. he ran over to jake, and was barking but jake just started to play with him. this is when the owner finally appeared!

the two of them happily chased each other around for a good 10 minutes, me just wandering around close to them while the other dogs owner was across the other side of the park! its not a big park, but it is still quite a distance.

they then started to play fight. after about 5 minutes of this, the dog started to hump jake! jake has a very small build, especially compared to a SBT so sometimes the dog would go right on top of him, and poor jake couldnt get him off. jake actually had to resort to biting the other dogs legs, although i could see he was doing it gently and the other dog didnt show any sign of realising what jake was doing.

the only way jake could get up was when the dog eventually decided he had had enough, so he would then play for a few minutes and then start the humping again! i would never let jake do that do another dog (he hasnt yet) and other people who i have met whos dogs have done that, get the dogs to stop. this owner just stood watching from a distance! i felt so bad for jake.

i decided to leave, so tried to get jake on his lead, but every time i tried this dog would jump on him and start again! i didnt know what to do, my instinct was just to force the dog off but i really hoped the owner would step in. when i did manage to get jake on the lead, the dog followed us all the way to the gate, still humping jake! and was then that the owner decided to call his dog, who responded immediately!

i dont get why he didnt do that earlier, rather than poor jake getting humped on for ages! it really p***ed me off! some owners just dont seem to care what their dogs are doing, im always wanting to make sure jake behaves and doesnt annoy other dogs. but some owners just dont give a toss, i hate it!

was a lovely dog though, extremely friendly and very well socialised. jake made a good friend... even if he was an obsessive humper

what a daft owner .

Did you notice if the dog was castrated?
bruno humps with excitement even though he has been castrated for over 6 years....

Some dogs its just excitement, but as you say the owner should not have allowed it to carry on, on a smaller/older dog it could have caused injury, and on a less tolerant dog could have ended in a fight,

I think I would have been inclined to say something to the owner to that effect.

I've got this problem with a little bedlington terrier that always tries to hump Zena and just like that sbt owner, this owner does nothing, I'm the one who has to keep yanking him off her!!! Georgie's a humper, but only with some black labs, but that's the reason he constantly has his horse rope dangling round his neck so I can see the situation arising and I grab hold of him, some owners should take a leaf out of my book by the looks of it!

yeah, he was castrated. my old dog sam, always humped after getting neutered but never to other dogs, and it was occassional. this dog was constant though...

i was tempted to say something, but he was so far away and i just wanted to get jake away from him. he was a really friendly boy, but just a tad too enthusiastic jake will take a lot before he will react, but i really think a lot of dogs would have reacted in that situation... and, as you said, a fight could have easily broke out...

you sound like one of the good ones lol, i would hate for jake to ever hump another dog (he hasnt yet) and if he did would be fast to get him off... this owner just didnt care what his dog was doing...

I recently helped rehome a 7 month old cocker spaniel pup, the new owners already had a male neutered spaniel and a female.
Two days later they had to give the puppy back, due to obsessive humping.....to their male not female dog!! the puppy had not been neutered and was just constantly on top of the other male dog- they loved the puppy in every other way but couldn't cope with the constant humping.
Happy to say the pup has been very happily rehomed to a lady with no others, apparently he slept for almost 2 days on arriving there- exhausted from all the humping!!!
I suggested they neuter him too!!!
