you should work on that with ellie,
lets face it, we can only control what our own dogs do, dogs snap all the time, while its anoying when the owner makes up excuses, its part of what dogs do,

dogs snap at my lot all the time, my lot are confident enough not to react,

I know Ollie can react to certain breeds and so I keep him under control and away if I meet someone with a dog we don't know I do the same and explain he can be a right grumpy old g*t. He doesn't like his personal space invaded so I block out any potential problem.

After all my dog has the problem not the ones happily running around.

Oh Laura, that makes Ellie sound so aggressively unpredicable. When we walked with you and Ellie that time, I have to say that although you said this to us, please remember Bruce snapped at Ellie a couple of times and she was very submissive and a beautiful dog. I think it wrong that you appear to give her such a bad Reppie.
I have to say we found her quite the opposite to what you had discribed her as being.

Such a lovely dog too

yep, you have a problem you deal with it, not just ignore it!

sadie has been having issues lately(mainly hormone related-shes spayed nx wk tho!) where she will not go to start a fight but does not need asking twice for a fight if another dog starts.
I realise that she could do a lot of damage if she wanted to, so i avoid placing her in that situation, where she has opportunity to respond.
hopefully when she spayed, and weve gone back to basics she can go back to be totally trustworthy again

i totally agree with that...

jake doesnt bother if dogs snap at him, he is very in your face and although he can take a telling (sometimes ), he just happily carries on his buisness with not a care in the world

ah but Jake is still a young lad though isn't he?

I bet this woman would have had something to say if a fully mature large breed dog like mine were to retaliate!

Yeah, really scarey aren't they gsd's!!!
I say that, H - but about staffies! Sadly, sometimes that is true and it can take ages for a dog to overcome a fear.

I usually ask the owner if we can stand and chat with the dogs onlead so Missy will realise not every black/brindle staffy will jump on her and bite her neck.

When Teagan was a pup she got attacked by a black lab.
The lady told me "It's because yours is a boxer. Mine doesn't like boxers."

Teagan must have turned into a boxer for the day without me knowing!

I think Teagan is a lovely boxer! In the same way as Rio is a nice GSD!

I went to the PDSA today. 7 people plus their animals up one end, woman with OH + GSD at the other. I stand in middle to speak to receptionist. Her dog heaves OH over to us.
Woman: Can you pull your dog away. She doesn`t like other dogs.
Me. No. You pull yours away.
Huge sigh and casting eyes to heaven from woman. Big sweet smile from me. OH and GSD sent outside by woman who obviously believes it`s everyone else that`s the problem, not her.
In fact the dog wasn`t showing any signs other than a mild interest in sniffing my old pointer, who is used to Shepherds and would certainly have backed off if there had been a problem.
I think a lot of this is plain ignorance.
